After 9 weeks, I Made It Home In One Piece!

Hey Everyone!

Well, I dodged tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and interpersonal problems on this 9 week tour of the USA, but I made it home to San Diego, safe and sound and in one piece. I am truly grateful to everyone who came out to hear me play or supported me in any way on this tour. As I wrote in my previous message, I sold out of almost all my merchandise; just 3 books, a few mismatch sized shirts are all I have left. I sold out of ALL of my new album, but you can still order in online or listen to it on Spotify here or any of your favorite music listening sites, such as iTunes, etc.. You can order my book online here: http://a.co/7Ptklzl

It was a very successful tour. So successful that I came home with enough money to pay my rent, which is not always the case. I think I saved a ton of money driving my Toyota Prius because it gets 50 MPG, which is important considering I drove 10,000 miles!!! Also, I booked a ton of shows,. I played almost everyday for 9 weeks. And then there's the whole saving money factor. I tell people all the time "being an artist is not always about making MORE money, it's about looking at your spending habits and seeing what you can SPEND LESS on". Thanks to everyone who let me stay at their house while I was on the trip. I saved a bunch of money not having to rent hotel rooms; I only stayed at 2 hotels the entire 9 weeks!

In other news, the San Diego based company Music and Motion Pictures recorded a high quality video of me playing Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" Check it out here: https://youtu.be/du3WCMLUJeM

A banjo version of "Wish You Were Here" is also available on my new album. You can listen to the new album for free here: www.fastheartmart.com/music

Anyways, too much to tell about the entire trip now. Just wanted to let you know I'm back safe in San Diego. I'll be spending the winter here before heading back out on the road next year. If you have any ideas or questions for me, please write me back and let me know. You can also just wrote back and say "hi" as I really enjoy hearing from you :)
Until next time, thanks for listening :)

PS The 1000 mile drive from Missoula Montana to Geyserville, CA is one of the most beautiful and desolate drives I have ever done. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away from civilization for a few days.

Sold Out Of My Merch!!!

It's a mixed blessing, but I sold out of all my merch that I brought on this tour!!! I just wish I had a few more books and CDs to last me the rest of this tour. No worries though, you can order my book here: http://a.co/7Ptklzl
and listen or buy to my new album here: www.fastheartmart.com/music

I still have about 3 more official shows, but I'm busking almost everywhere I go.
"Take Me Home, I Don't Want to Roll No More" sings "Ramblin" Jack Elliot, one of my favorite folk musicians of all time.
Don't get me wrong! This tour has been really great!!!! I love being on the road. But all great things will lose their novelty and I must return back to a grounded life before I float away into nothingness.

On this tour I have seen some great friends. I have made some new friends. I have sold out of almost all of my merchandise. However, I estimate that this is week 9 though, and I'm ready to get back to San Diego. My Toyota Prius has been very good to me, but it's getting a bit frustrating living out of it. I've concluded that I need an RV if I'm going to be on trips longer than 3 weeks.  [click photo below for a silly video about living in my Prius]
I have been fortunate to have barely missed the hurricanes on the east coast, the flooding in the midwest and the tornadoes in Kansas. Just a few days ago I woke up in my car in Novato, CA. There was smoke everywhere. It was before the wildfires in Northern California were all over the news. I barely escaped as I drove out of town with smoke filling the skies all around me. I have lots of friends in Northern California and my thoughts are with you! I'll be playing a benefit concert in Northern California next weekend Sat Sept 21st on my way back to San Diego. Please come and support this area! Click photo below for more info:
It's perilous times we live in. Makes me appreciate every moment that's going right. Just when I thought I had heard enough my friend informed me that Tom Petty passed away suddenly. I had to pull over right then and sing a song by him. Video is below. Click the Photo:

The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco was a great time last weekend! I was out there busking each night for over a hundred people at times. Check out the video below [click photo]
Way too many stories to recount here. I will be heading back to San Diego by October 24th. I have a few shows in San Diego that week, but the one I am promoting the most is at my favorite venue, Nate's Garden Grill. It is Sunday October 29th from 1-3pm. Click photo below for more info:

Anyways, thanks to everyone for being on this list. I salute you Fast Heart Mart veterans! I welcome you new Fast Heart Mart fans. Please write back and say "hello" because I love hearing from you all :)

Un-Labor Day

Hello everyone! It's Labor Day in the USA. I'm not sure why though because hardly anyone works today. Shouldn't it be called "Un-Labor Day"?
It's typically what people in the USA consider to be the end of summer because all the kids are back in school and people are preparing for fall and winter. Either way, I hope you are having a good day off!
I have been on the road for over two weeks now and I am loving it! SO much so that I am seriously considering buy an RV so I can do this more often. However, I still have another 6 weeks on this tour left and I may have a change of heart by then, but I don't know. I love waking up in a different city. I love visiting my friends all over the country. I love singing for crowds who have never heard me and making new fans. I love singing my old songs for fans who have been cheering me on for over a decade now. I love driving through the big open sky of Kansas in August. Yes, this tour has been a lot of fun so far and I am earning pretty good money, especially with the sale of my new book and CD.
The book about my musical tour of Europe last summer is for sale at the shows and on online here. Please write a review on Amazon if you have read it because it will help the book be more visible online: http://a.co/euOkQ9u

My new album titled "2017" can be listened to on Spotify now or any of your favorite sites. Check it out and let me know what you think about it.  You can listen to it free and/or buy it at this link: www.fastheartmart.com/music

It would be nice to have a bit more room than my Toyota Prius offers while on tour. Here is a silly video of all the trash falling out of my car in Indiana after it piled up for 12 days: https://www.facebook.com/fastheartmart/videos/10155664381466779/

Thanks to everyone who has helped me book all the shows on this tour so far!  Thanks to everyone who has come out to the any of the shows! I'm two weeks in and I still have a lot more shows to go, including this Thursday Sept 7 at The Hard Rock Cafe in Boston 5-8pm, then on to New York City for two shows in Harlem!

Time To Be A Hobo

Since my high school days I've wanted to be a hobo. A sober hobo.Other kids had big plans to have a career doing something, but I wanted to be a hobo and I still do. It seems like a simple life. Wake up in the morning at your campsite, lounge around and come up with a plan to meet your needs. Travel onwards and elsewhere if you desire.
Well, I've been out of high school for over twenty years now and I've never actually hopped a freight train, but I've lived as close to being a hobo as I can. From performing my music on the streets all over the world, living out of a van that's powered by vegetable oil, to camping out in Golden Gate Park to sleeping on the ground in Belgium.

In two days I'm leaving for a two month tour around the USA! I will be traveling and living in my 2013 Toyota Prius. As many of you know, I used to tour around in vans. However, now, after all my experience in touring, the most important features of a tour vehicle are reliability and fuel economy. My Toyota Prius provides both. I can even sleep in it with the heat or air conditioning on because it turns itself off and on automatically! This is me getting as close as I can to being a hobo right now and still being able to have a semblance of a music career.
I have a new album out ! It is called 2017. It is all banjo songs. The first song is a funny song I wrote called "Crappy Holiday". Check out the great video my friend Chad Farran made of it here: https://youtu.be/-pQ8Ri63X3Q
The rest of the new album is especially unique for me because I covered 5 songs with the banjo; "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne, "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty, "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles, and "Rocky Top" by the Obsorne Brothers. I think "crazy Train" is a great song for our current state of affairs.
Within the next few days you can listen to my new album on Spotify or any of your favorite streaming sites. Until then listen to it and or buy it here now: www.fastheartmart.com/music
As many of you now I also released my first book, about my musical travels in Europe last summer, a few months back. The book is available here: http://a.co/euOkQ9u
Anybody who has read the book can write a review for it on amazon. It is especially helpful if people write a review because if I get 10 reviews or more then Amazon will put my book in a more visible place for the rest of the world to see. So please buy AND review my book here: http://a.co/euOkQ9u
On this tour I hope to sell 50 books and 100 CDs (pictured above)! I'd also like to see old friend and make new ones. I'm getting more shows all the time, but all my official tour dates so far are below:
8-18 Fri. San Diego, CA Nate's Garden Grill Last Show in San Diego for 2 months!

My Days Are Numbered

Well, everyone's days are numbered, wether we want to acknowledge it or not. It is knowing this that makes us seize each day and make it the most we can. Some days are better than others, for sure. But we keep on trying to make our days count.

What I really meant though, is "my days are numbered" for how long I have until my USA tour starts August 20th ;)

I will be all over the USA and I am excited! It's exciting and scary. I look forward to long drives across open roads. It's scary because I never know if I'm going to be able to make enough money to pay my bills. I'll be playing some venues, including the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, but I'll also be doing a lot of street performing (aka "busking") in cities I've never played before.

As Hank Williams sings "When God made me, he made a rambling man". Many of you who know me, know that I have worked hard at plenty of traditional jobs, but the open road always calls me. Even when it makes no sense. I just love to get out there and play my music in different cities and see different scenery. I will miss my current residence of San Diego, but I look forward to trees and rain storms and green lush grass as far as the eye can see. It will make me appreciate San Diego even more.

My biggest excuse for going on this trip is to promote my book. It is available on Amazon here: http://a.co/euOkQ9u

For you who are in San Diego, CA, I have a a really great gig happening this Saturday

Saturday July 29th from 6-8pm at Nate's Garden Grill  in San Diego, CA
This is my new favorite place to play in San Diego! It is located in the middle of a plant nursery and you can eat fresh vegetables straight from their garden at the restaurant where I play to all the dining customers. It's free to get in. I play for tips and the money I make selling my CDs and book(s). I've played there twice now and both times have been GREAT FUN!

I plan on playing two new songs. One is a song I wrote called "God Bless You San Diego". The other is a cover of Ozzy Ousbourne's "Crazy Train" I've arranged for banjo. Watch a clip here:

My days are numbered, so I'm going to do what I want to with my life. I hope you are too. Are there things in your life that excite you, yet scare you at the same time and don't necessarily make logical sense? Write me back and let me know about them if you'd like.  I always enjoy hearing form you!

I'm in the San Diego Reader this Week!

Hey Fast Heart Mart fans,
Check it out! My book got a little write up in the San Diego Reader this week! I was told by the writer of this short piece that if enough people comment on it then the newspaper will run the full article. So please comment and read it here:
https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2017/jun/14/blurt-musicians-bookish-side/?login

You can now officially order the book in physical or Kindle form on amazon here: http://a.co/euOkQ9u
The book is an honest account of my travels through Germany in the summer of 2016. I think it is a good book. It will make a great father's day gift. Please write an Amazon review of it if you feel inclined.
Some of you may know that I am an endorsed artist with Deering Banjos . I am proud to announce that I now own a brand new custom made John Hartford model Deering banjo. It is almost all black with a Grenadillo tone ring and a pop off resonator. All this jargon may not mean anything to you if you don't know much about banjos, but to make a long story short, it is an amazingly versatile banjo! See it pictured below...
If you are in the San Diego area this weekend here is some shows that may interest you
Otherwise, I am still hard at work on planning my two month book tour-odyssey. Booking it is a ton of work and to be honest sometimes I think I'm going to give up. I tell myself "just stay around San Diego and play on the beaches and be conservative at this point in your life. Playing all over the world is not worth getting stressed out over". However, when I remain flexible and open I stay sane and I persevere somehow. It is my dream to travel and play music. Though I am now 40 years old I still pursue this dream because nothing else makes more sense. "You are never too young to have a dream and never too old to make your dream come true" -Pam Flowers

Booking has never been my forte, but like anything else, you get better at it the more you do it. Below is the list of dates.

If you want to book me at any of the places that don't say "[BOOKED]" beside them, let me know!

For example, you may want to put together a house concert for me to play. I am very good at house concerts. However, I can also adapt to almost any venue.
I also have a bunch of shows coming up in Southern California soon, including some this Memorial Day weekend in LA and the Joshua Tree area. For details on all my upcoming shows please go here: www.fastheartmart.com/shows

I have been in plenty of low points in my life, but the wonderful thing is, as long as I keep going as best I can, life has a way of resolving things. Life is a series of challenges that hits some of us harder than others and in unique ways.
Ok everyone, that's enough for now. Please write back and say "hello" or something. I love hearing from you. This book release is exciting stuff as is doing a 2 month North American tour! However, none of it is possible without each of you :)
Love and Gratitude,
