The Good News Blues

Hello there Fast Heart Mart supporters! I hope this message finds you well! If not, blame all the crazy news reports that seem to be trying to keep us all in a state of confusion. Today I have some good news for you!

I call it The Good News Blues because I am reluctant to come across like I am bragging. Trust me, I have plenty of not so good news I could report too, but this month in this newsletter I will report on only the good stuff. It is important in these trying times to focus on the positive. Like my song Invincible sings "A hundred things are wrong, but a trillion things are right. I choose to live, on the bright side".

Thank You to the San Diego Troubadour and Frank Kocher for a great review of my latest album "CoronaCoaster Blues"!

In other good news, my newest album has been nominated for "Best Local Recording" by the San Diego Music Awards. This years online voting runs thru June 30, 2021 at 5pm. Winners will be chosen on the basis of a 50% public vote + 50% San Diego Music Academy vote. Anyone with an email address can vote, so set an alert on your calendar and vote for me once per day at this website under the "Best Local Recording" category

It is also "good news blues" because good news to me may not be good news to you. I love the Media Monarchy Podcast. Some people may not appreciate this type of "conspiracy theory" humor, but I think it is brilliant and hilarious and I'm glad to have my song "CoronaCaoster Blues" featured on this episode

Media Monarchy also featured another song of mine from the same album called "Frustrated" on this more recent episode

Just to be clear, I am taking the virus very seriously. Here is a webpage I created that describes how I boost my immune system and the alternative therapies to use in case a person comes down with COVID-19

Here is a glimpse into my life as a full time musician lately

I will be hitting the road in July and August. Here is my tentative schedule. Please let me know if you have any ideas for gigs in these places on these dates

Ground Hog Day Again

Hello there Fast Heart Mart supporters! The results from last month's poll are in and most people voted that they would like to get an email from me once a month and so here I am, sending you your monthly email.

I hope this message finds you well! If not, blame the ground hog who saw his own shadow and now there will be 6 more weeks of winter here in the northern hemisphere. If you're not from the USA and have no idea what I'm talking about, then go here to read about GroundHog Day

Speaking of Ground Hog Day, there is a movie called "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray. In this movie, Bill Murray's character has to live the same day over and over again until he learns certain lessons about life. Some would say that the times we are living in with all this "pandemic" stuff is a lesson that that we must learn in order to move forward as a human race. This concept resonates with me. I think the world is learning a big lesson right now. I am optimistic that we will eventually come out of the other side of this stronger and all living in a better world.

I have written a document about my feelings on this pandemic here
The document is intended to encourage all of us to help eradicate this pandemic as quickly as possible. I think one of the lessons we are meant to learn from this pandemic is how to cordially disagree with one another. It is ok to disagree, but I think it is important to be respectful about the disagreement. I welcome your feedback on this document, even if it is a respectful disagreement.

My new album "CoronaCoaster Blues" has been out for about a month now, so it's old news, but I just wanted to let you know that if you purchase the album off BandCamp this Friday Feb. 5th, then BandCamp takes no fees and I get 100% of the purchase.

Also, my new album is now available on Pandora here:
You can even make a "Fast Heart Mart" station that will play Fast Heart Mart stuff and other similar artists.

I took a month off from the podcast as I needed a break. I have decided to stop doing the weekly podcast as I am having a hard time finding the time for it. It has been fun, but I want to focus my energy into my music. I will continue to post one video a week with me performing a song and telling a joke. For those of you who will miss my ranting from the full podcast episodes, rest assured, I will be "going live" once a month and I will probably do a lot of ranting there. Listen/watch episode 26 "I'm Gonna Shut Up and Sing" as this will be the final episode, for now

I think that is all for now. I've got to get back to saving the world through music, comedy and speaking my mind. Thank you for reading this. Please write back and say "hello" as I love hearing from you.

Valentines Blues and Birthday Tunes

Hello there Fast Heart Mart followers! I hope this message finds you well! If not, blame Mercury Retrograde or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Seriously, this time of year is the most challenging for me and a lot of others. The daylight is short and we want to rest, but the modern lifestyle demands that we keep moving full steam ahead. Clash that with Valentine's Day and you can have a recipe for emotional meltdown! I wrote a blog post about it here:

Remember, no matter how tough the wintertime blues get, life is fleeting and no one will be here forever. Here is a song called "I'll Fly Away" to remind you:

My band and I have some shows coming up, including tonight
Grand Ole BBQ - Flynn Springs
Friday February 21
15505 Olde Hwy 80, El Cajon, CA 92021
All Ages

In other FHM news, it's my 43rd birthday on March 7th and I wanted to invite you to come hang out with me. Please respond to this message for the address. No pressure. No expectations. I'm not even calling it a party. It's just a hang out session. I've often described being a full-time musician as akin to throwing a birthday party for yourself 200 times in a year. It can be overwhelming and the last thing I need is to throw another "party" for myself. In this fast paced world we currently live in sometimes it's nice just to have an excuse to hang out and do nothing all day long. It's a BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything) Potluck as I'm not in the position to provide much except the place for us all to hang out. I may spring for some chips, dip and beer, but don't count on it. Who even eats birthday cakes anymore?! Sugar is the bane of the human race at this point. However, I might provide a cake, I don't know....

Come for 8 seconds or 8 hours. It's up to you. Come. Don't come. It's all good either way! I'll just be hanging out all day, talking with whoever is around, playing a bit of music here and there, drinking a beer or two, snacking, and even napping if the spirit moves me. My ever-loving parents will be there, for those of you who enjoy their company. The following day, Sunday May 8th will be the first day of the spring forward time change thingy, so beware of that. I also don't intend to look at my phone much on this day so I may not get your text if you send one.

NOON-130pm (ISH) I will lead a guided hike through the canyons & jungles of Southern North Park. Time is approximate of course because I'm not going impose any time constraints on myself. This hike is approx. 3 miles and it can be deceptively strenuous. However, the nice thing is that there are plenty of places for you to walk back to my house if you don't want to do the entire thing. It's a semi-urban hike so you're never too far from "civilization".

3pm-ish I imagine I'll take a nap like I do just about everyday. I usually only nap for about 30 minutes. However, you are welcome to keep hanging out as I have a lovely fire-pit area.

6pm Speaking of fire-pits, I forecast we'll get the fire going sometime around 6pm, isn't that roughly when sundown is? This is likely when the most music jamming will take place. Bring an instrument to jam if you'd like. I have a fun game that I invented called "JamBuster" that you are welcome to play with me. It's fun even for the most novice of musicians.

7pm Once the mood is set just right with fire going I will give a speech like I do every year. Some of you know that sometimes my speeches are good and sometimes they are a waste of time. Either way, I enjoy doing it. This speech made it in the history books for some: I also may unveil a new song OR not, depending on if the spirit moves me.

I predict things will be done or close to it by 8pm UNLESS the weather is amazing and things are going splendidly, in which case we might go until 10pm when we have to shut down out of respect for my neighbors. I'm usually in bed by 10 or 11pm anyways as my dream life is a thriving world of bliss.

As far as gifts are concerned, if you insist on giving me something you can please just give me cash or Venmo/PayPal me if. As a self employed musicians I am always in need of funds for something or other and a Venmo deposit at Fast Heart Mart (PayPal will be most appreciated. Otherwise, I am not easy to please with gifts and I might get annoyed if you give me something that's just going to clutter up my life. Therefore, please believe me when I say, your presence is the best present :)

Please write back and say hello if you made it all the way through this message. I surmise a lot of people would not have time to make it through this letter and I certainly understand that. I hardly have time to read anything these days. I write these messages as much for myself as I do for others. Writing keeps me sane. As for those of you who did make it the entire way through, I salute you and thank you very much!

January 31 2020

I hope this message finds you well with your new year started off right. If not, here is a video of my band and I playing Ozzy's "Crazy Train"

This is a great song for the crazy times we are living in. I happen to believe that every generation is plagued with their own unique problems, just as each stage of human life is plagued with it's own set of unique issues. We are currently in the adolescent stage of the human race and as we know the teenage years are usually the most tumultuous. Since the beginning of human existence people have been saying "did you hear what happened to Tommy yesterday? He was eaten by a tiger! I just don't know what the world is coming to. People never got eaten by tigers when I was growing up". However, we are now in the midst of a great change in human history that has been like none other. Change is constant right now and I think we are only at the beginning. There is plenty more to come before we reach the maturity of adulthood in the human race. if you are out there feeling confused, please know, you are not alone. These are crazy times and we are "going off the rails on a crazy train" right now. We needed to get off the rails, so ultimately this is a good change, but the ride is full of bumps and turns. Hang on as much as you can.
Here is another song we did previously in this same recording session. This is one that I wrote called "So Many Problems". It's a song about being the change you want to see. No matter what political spectrum you align with, it is time that we realize that we are all the change we want to see in the world. Politicians, no matter how great or terrible, cannot make the changes without us doing the work as well. Each of us should pick out one area that we are passionate about and make the change for the better in the world. I am also reminded  of Mother Teresa's quote "if you want to change the world, go home and love your family". This is the same thing. Be the change you want to see.

In other news, I am working hard on booking shows for the year. Here is the schedule
Jan-May: San Diego & Southern California
May 1-10: Arizona & Southern New Mexico tour
June1-August 9: New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Canada, Montana, Idaho, Utah tour
September 3 - October 6th: West Coast USA tour
October 8-December 31st: San Diego & Southern California

I am underway with booking, but if you have suggestions for places for me to play in any of these areas, please let me know. House concerts are particularly welcome.

That is all for now. Thanks for continuing to support me! I'm not sure how many people actually read this stuff, but I know a few of you do and I am grateful for that. Write back and say hello! It's always good to hear from you :)

After 9 weeks, I Made It Home In One Piece!

Hey Everyone!

Well, I dodged tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and interpersonal problems on this 9 week tour of the USA, but I made it home to San Diego, safe and sound and in one piece. I am truly grateful to everyone who came out to hear me play or supported me in any way on this tour. As I wrote in my previous message, I sold out of almost all my merchandise; just 3 books, a few mismatch sized shirts are all I have left. I sold out of ALL of my new album, but you can still order in online or listen to it on Spotify here or any of your favorite music listening sites, such as iTunes, etc.. You can order my book online here:

It was a very successful tour. So successful that I came home with enough money to pay my rent, which is not always the case. I think I saved a ton of money driving my Toyota Prius because it gets 50 MPG, which is important considering I drove 10,000 miles!!! Also, I booked a ton of shows,. I played almost everyday for 9 weeks. And then there's the whole saving money factor. I tell people all the time "being an artist is not always about making MORE money, it's about looking at your spending habits and seeing what you can SPEND LESS on". Thanks to everyone who let me stay at their house while I was on the trip. I saved a bunch of money not having to rent hotel rooms; I only stayed at 2 hotels the entire 9 weeks!

In other news, the San Diego based company Music and Motion Pictures recorded a high quality video of me playing Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" Check it out here:

A banjo version of "Wish You Were Here" is also available on my new album. You can listen to the new album for free here:

Anyways, too much to tell about the entire trip now. Just wanted to let you know I'm back safe in San Diego. I'll be spending the winter here before heading back out on the road next year. If you have any ideas or questions for me, please write me back and let me know. You can also just wrote back and say "hi" as I really enjoy hearing from you :)
Until next time, thanks for listening :)

Sold Out Of My Merch!!!

It's a mixed blessing, but I sold out of all my merch that I brought on this tour!!! I just wish I had a few more books and CDs to last me the rest of this tour. No worries though, you can order my book here:
and listen or buy to my new album here:

I still have about 3 more official shows, but I'm busking almost everywhere I go.
"Take Me Home, I Don't Want to Roll No More" sings "Ramblin" Jack Elliot, one of my favorite folk musicians of all time.
Don't get me wrong! This tour has been really great!!!! I love being on the road. But all great things will lose their novelty and I must return back to a grounded life before I float away into nothingness.

On this tour I have seen some great friends. I have made some new friends. I have sold out of almost all of my merchandise. However, I estimate that this is week 9 though, and I'm ready to get back to San Diego. My Toyota Prius has been very good to me, but it's getting a bit frustrating living out of it. I've concluded that I need an RV if I'm going to be on trips longer than 3 weeks.  [click photo below for a silly video about living in my Prius]
I have been fortunate to have barely missed the hurricanes on the east coast, the flooding in the midwest and the tornadoes in Kansas. Just a few days ago I woke up in my car in Novato, CA. There was smoke everywhere. It was before the wildfires in Northern California were all over the news. I barely escaped as I drove out of town with smoke filling the skies all around me. I have lots of friends in Northern California and my thoughts are with you! I'll be playing a benefit concert in Northern California next weekend Sat Sept 21st on my way back to San Diego. Please come and support this area! Click photo below for more info:
It's perilous times we live in. Makes me appreciate every moment that's going right. Just when I thought I had heard enough my friend informed me that Tom Petty passed away suddenly. I had to pull over right then and sing a song by him. Video is below. Click the Photo:

The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco was a great time last weekend! I was out there busking each night for over a hundred people at times. Check out the video below [click photo]
Way too many stories to recount here. I will be heading back to San Diego by October 24th. I have a few shows in San Diego that week, but the one I am promoting the most is at my favorite venue, Nate's Garden Grill. It is Sunday October 29th from 1-3pm. Click photo below for more info:

Anyways, thanks to everyone for being on this list. I salute you Fast Heart Mart veterans! I welcome you new Fast Heart Mart fans. Please write back and say "hello" because I love hearing from you all :)
