I'm in the San Diego Reader this Week!

Hey Fast Heart Mart fans,
Check it out! My book got a little write up in the San Diego Reader this week! I was told by the writer of this short piece that if enough people comment on it then the newspaper will run the full article. So please comment and read it here:
https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2017/jun/14/blurt-musicians-bookish-side/?login

You can now officially order the book in physical or Kindle form on amazon here: http://a.co/euOkQ9u
The book is an honest account of my travels through Germany in the summer of 2016. I think it is a good book. It will make a great father's day gift. Please write an Amazon review of it if you feel inclined.
Some of you may know that I am an endorsed artist with Deering Banjos . I am proud to announce that I now own a brand new custom made John Hartford model Deering banjo. It is almost all black with a Grenadillo tone ring and a pop off resonator. All this jargon may not mean anything to you if you don't know much about banjos, but to make a long story short, it is an amazingly versatile banjo! See it pictured below...
If you are in the San Diego area this weekend here is some shows that may interest you
Otherwise, I am still hard at work on planning my two month book tour-odyssey. Booking it is a ton of work and to be honest sometimes I think I'm going to give up. I tell myself "just stay around San Diego and play on the beaches and be conservative at this point in your life. Playing all over the world is not worth getting stressed out over". However, when I remain flexible and open I stay sane and I persevere somehow. It is my dream to travel and play music. Though I am now 40 years old I still pursue this dream because nothing else makes more sense. "You are never too young to have a dream and never too old to make your dream come true" -Pam Flowers

Booking has never been my forte, but like anything else, you get better at it the more you do it. Below is the list of dates.

If you want to book me at any of the places that don't say "[BOOKED]" beside them, let me know!

I have been in plenty of low points in my life, but the wonderful thing is, as long as I keep going as best I can, life has a way of resolving things. Life is a series of challenges that hits some of us harder than others and in unique ways.
Ok everyone, that's enough for now. Please write back and say "hello" or something. I love hearing from you. This book release is exciting stuff as is doing a 2 month North American tour! However, none of it is possible without each of you :)

Easter Sunday Afternoon

Hello San Diego!

Some of you may know that I've been keeping myself busy performing my music on the streets of San Diego lately. It's been an adventure for sure. I am enjoying it. The money is pretty good and I'm meeting a lot of people, including this writer who wrote a blog entry about me:

I am still playing non street performances as well though. My next "real"  show is this Sunday, April 16th with my good friend Doo Crowder. Doo is currently living in Los Angles, working on his masterpiece album. He raised enough money with his hilarious kickstarter campaign to produce his new album with a producer in LA named Shyman. Check out the funny video here:

Who: Fast Heart Mart and Doo Crowder
What:  A Dignified Music Concert
When: Sunday, April 16th from 3-4:30pm Sharp!
Where: Torque Moto Cafe  3604 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92104
How Much money?:  Free, but tipping is encouraged as is buying some merchandise from the musicians

Otherwise, I'm still getting my book ready for release and planning a late summer/ early fall tour.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Good Lordy I'm Forty and I'm Having a Party!

Hey there everyone! Fast Heart Mart here.

On March 7th 2017 I will be 40 years old. I am not afraid of turning 40, although it seems like society thinks I should be. No. I am proud that I’ve gone around the sun this many times. Life is a choice. I’m grateful that I’m still learning and growing! I feel stronger than ever :)

I am inviting my friends from all over the world to come celebrate this occasion with me. There will be music, good conversation and the perfect excuse to lounge around my back yard with no agenda whatsoever except to enjoy the Sun Diego afternoon. I meant to get these invites out sooner, but life happens. So, stop everything, buy a plane ticket if you have to and let’s do this thing!

Click here to RSVP if you'd like: http://evite.me/TRcAF7cspA
Date:
March 5th 2017
1-6pm

Place:
Bird Park
-overlooks downtown San Diego-
3300 28th St.
-SW corner of 28th & Upas-
San Diego, CA
92014

What:
“Fast Heart” Martin Stamper’s birthday party
BYOB Potluck Open Mic (see notes below)
Free birthday cake provided!

Music/Entertainment :
There will be an open mic that will be held for the duration of the party, so please bring your instrument. I will perform a few songs to kick off the open mic, then I will perform again sometime later and give a 40th birthday speech. I hope to perform a new song that I am working on about turning 40 :)

Here is a video of a song one I wrote for the occasion (below)

Watch the video at this link: https://youtu.be/7TrvwvwD_TA

Food/Drinks:
I will do my best to feed everyone. I am making a vegetarian soup and I will serve a birthday cake (anyone know of a good cake baker?) Additionally, it would be great if you would bring some refreshments to help out as I don’t know how many people to expect. If everyone brings a little something then that assures us of having enough. Adult beverages on the DL for those of the legal drinking age. In short, it is somewhat of a BYOB potluck, but I will provide as much as I can :)

Gifts:
As far as birthday gifts for me, do not feel obligated to give me anything. Your presence is the best present. If you insist on a gift keep in mind that I am planning a trip to Europe this summer to play a TV show and play some outdoor festivals. I am raising funds for the trip. A Proper fundraiser through Indiegogo will launch soon, but until then please consider donating to my European Travel fund by Paypaling money to fastheartmart@gmail.com

Book Pre-Release:
I will be pre-releasing my first official book at my birthday party about my travels in Europe last summer. It will be for sale for those who are interested. There will also be an official book release in April, but I wanted to sneak it into this event as well.

After-party:
After 6pm, if anyone wants to keep on hangin’, we will most likely carry on at the Thorn Street brewery, located a few blocks from Bird Park.

The Show Must Go On:
If it rains or is in-climate weather, the party will still happen. Bring a chair, a blanket and an umbrella just in case you need it (rain or shine).

I know not everyone will be able to come. Thank you for even considering it (and reading this far into the invite). I know now after years of throwing music concerts for myself to be unattached to the outcome of how many people attend an event. Whoever comes will be delightful! I hope you can make it out :)
Excited,
“Fast Heart” Martin Stamper

PS I remember when I was a kid people would get black balloons for their 40th because they were now “over the hill”. Black balloons seem fun :)

PPS Throwing my own party can be overwhelming for me, so don't be offended if you see me sitting in the same chair the whole time, this is my way of staying grounded and enjoying my own party ;)

FHM at the SD Fermenter's Festival and More!!!

Hello San Diego!

What a wet winter we've had! I'm tempted to ask the mayor for my money back sometimes! I didn't move to San Diego for this kind of winter weather.  I moved to San Diego hoping I could play my music out on the streets ("busking") anytime of year!

Ha! I'm kidding of course ;)  All the rain is a good thing because we have been in a drought and we need the water. Life is magical and it's been a good excuse for me to say inside and do other inside stuff.

This weather has been so wet and cold that I haven't been able to go busking and performing my music on the streets, BUT I am staying busy playing other places. I went to Arizona and New Mexico for 5 shows a few weeks ago and it was a fun success! I have some cool performances coming up that you should know about.

On the Road Again

I hope you all had a great holiday season! Honestly, mine was kind of rough because I came down with a terrible flu that troubled me for about a week, then Mercury went retrograde and things started coming apart at the seems until I squeezed through New Year's eve. I wrote some sad songs, which helped me feel better and I'm now back on the happy track!

Life is a journey and I like to talk about the ups and the downs. This is why I am an artist. I hope that me expressing my tribulations helps others feel less alone in the world, knowing that someone else out there is experiencing some unpleasantries. I know not to dwell, but I think it is important to acknowledge it. And life is meant to be enjoyed. So I'm doing my best to keep on the sunny side.

Now my journey is taking me to Arizona and New Mexico next week for some shows and I am really excited about iit I have some new songs to share and some old friends to see.

For more details about all the shows on the tour visit www.fastheartmart.com/shows

I haven't played any shows in Arizona or New Mexico since Spring of 2014 as seen in this mini documentary: https://youtu.be/7Foo4sHHofE

I hope you can make it out to a show soon! I'm not the best about keeping up with all my friends and if I haven't been in touch with any of you in a while please write and say "hello". I would love to hear from you. Let me know what is going on in your world. I always write back!

Courage to Follow Your Bliss

Hello Fast Heart Mart fans!

We live in some interesting times times! I've heard it said that this time in human history can be compared to high noon. It's very bright and sunny, which is good, but it can get pretty intense. Each age has its challenge and ours certainly has plenty too. One challenge I think we all must currently face is living passionately.

These modern times have afforded us basic survival like never before. It's never been easier to stay alive than it is now with modern medicine, food production, etc.. However, just because our basic needs for survival are being met does not mean that we are happy. We all know what it's like to exist, but what about happiness and joy?

Now more than ever I think it is important that we all follow our bliss. For example, I am following my bliss of being a musician because music is the one thing in life that brings me consistent joy. There is almost nothing better than a good song for me. Songs can make me feel less alone in the world because the singer may be singing about something that I am going through too. However, we all know that being a musician doesn't guarantee financial stability. That is where faith comes in. I know that I was given the gift of music and when I honor that gift, the Universe provides a way for me to follow my bliss. I've been mostly doing music for a living now since June and just as I think I'm gonna go broke, something comes along and helps me out. It's miraculous!!!

Dear reader, I encourage each of you to follow your bliss. No matter what it is, no matter how much you think it's never going to make any money, follow it. Let it lead you and make you passionate. Let it teach you faith. Money is fine, but it's not real anymore. It's not backed by gold. Therefore, believe in yourself. Believe in your gift. Believe that you are alive to be happy and joyful and passionate. Have faith in the Universe. Following your bliss may get bleak at times, but that is part of the adventure. Keep rowing your boat. You are sure to come upon brighter days again...

Ok, that's enough of that for now...

The artist struggle is definitely still here, but I'm doing fairly well these days! I have some important shows coming up in San Diego, CA, including:

October 16th, Sunday 7-9pm Java Joe's (3536 32nd St, San Diego, CA)
and
October 21st, Friday, 7-9pm Riff's Studios (5510 La Jolla Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037)

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of busking at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. Here is a short clip of my experience: https://youtu.be/1vj1wjwzh60

I have a book coming out before the holidays about my travels in Europe this summer. It will be available as an E-Book and in print. Until then, here are the blog entries that the book is based on: http://fhmeurotour2016.blogspot.com
